The Vashon Maury Island Green Party is involved in several projects here on Vashon that are designed to embody and further our Ten Key Values. We have made it our first priority to work within our own community to develop progressive projects as well as to support the efforts of other progressive groups here on the island, in the state of Washington, and nationally. Some projects are:

• Progressive Book Club - The Progressive Book Club is a social event designed for members to get to know each other while discussing progressive book selections.
• Green Party Film Series - The Film Series is a social event as well as a chance to see some rarely available films.
• Election Reform - Election reform is a very high priority for Greens all over the US. The current electoral system is so biased against third parties that it makes success in anything but the smallest local election very difficult. Vashon Greens have worked on a number of campaigns and electoral reform issues here in Washington State, trying to level the playing field and make electoral choices more available to voters.
  
  Our efforts in the Instant Runoff Voting campaign were very well managed by Melvin Mackey. Although the state campaign did not reach enough signatures to get on the ballot, our Vashon effort was particularly strong, producing around 1,000 signatures.
• Vashon Progressive Alliance - The Vashon Greens have been very active in starting up the Vashon Progressive Alliance, a coordinating body to help Vashon progressive organizations to work better together and become more effective. This group meets bimonthly to develop common resources and approaches.
• Public Utility District - Failed septic systems and groundwater and shoreline contamination are an ongoing problem here on Vashon. The Greens are working with the Community Council and other Vashon citizens to explore the possibility of a Public Utility District on Vashon to clean up septic and groundwater problems and support alternative energy and waste management projects. Steve Graham is coordinating this effort, chairing the Septic Solutions committee for the Vashon Maury Island Community Council.
• Outreach – Vashon Greens participate in local island festivities, such as the Strawberry Festival and the Earthfair, and sometimes at statewide events. We also sponsor or co-sponsor entertainment or informational events, usually with a political slant. Members are encouraged to help out at these events.
