Election Reform

Election reform is a very high priority for the Green Party, because we feel that democracy in our country has been seriously undermined by the current system, which is dominated by the money donated by wealthy corporations and individuals, leaving most people without a voice.  Instant Runoff Voting, Public Campaign Financing, and Proportional Representation are all important reforms that must be put in place to bring back a valid democratic process.

The Vashon-Maury Island Green Party strives to educate ourselves, other interested citizens, and legislators concerning problems and solutions associated with current election equipment, election methods, and political campaign financing. We work with other organizations, participate in issue campaigns, collect signatures, and lobby our legislators. You can do your part by:

  • learning about election reform issues
  • participating in an election reform organization
  • supporting Vashon-Maury Island Green Party direct action.

It's a bold, new experiment in campaign finance reform, seeking to restore democracy and the principle of one person, one vote.
