This morning my wife and I discussed arithmetic. I’d tossed a book on sets and the new math, she’d read about fibonacci numbers, and then of course there is Richard Feynman and his reverence for time as in you cannot count it. Mainly I was thinking about a granddaughter who dislikes “math”, as in a class where you have to do decimals. So I quoted a brother who has pointed out that base ten is not the only scheme for writing down a number. There is for example the binary scheme in which a hundred years would...

A letter signed by the US Attorney General, Secretary of Defense, and head of the CIA in 2004 told the 9/11 Commission it could not interview detained suspects. Dear fellow islanders, we are living a lie. Roughly one quarter of the US population knows that an inconceivable crime had been committed by our own government yet buries that knowledge and daily acts the patriotic role. The letter was obtained by the ACLU under the freedom of information act and posted today on my net by one of the "Truthers". This...

Jim Page has written a ballad called I'd Rather Be Dancing, subtitled above. It's more hypnotic than musical, but the video that he or somebody tacked onto it is powerful.

Maybe I just could not catch the words. He mumbles. No matter, at the end I found myself fixed in my seat staring vacantly at the monitor, stunned by a moral sledgehammer to my soul, our complicity in that bulldozer. Getting on...

| March 9th Agenda: Second Draft - Monday, March 01, 2010 Hello again everyone! Spencer Campbell here. Preparations for the upcoming meeting are going as smoothly as can be expected, considering I am all but cold calling people. It will be happening at Joy's house, as usual. Some of you may have noticed that there was no new announcement last Monday. This is because, unexpectedly, no one added more items to the agenda that week. This week, however, there is one new item contributed by Maryrose Asher. An update is certainly in order! 1): I will give a treasury report. -- Jeannie Ernst (inferred)
2): "I will explain the meeting format." -- Spencer Campbell
3): "Who should facilitate the April meeting?" -- Spencer Campbell
4): "What do we want to accomplish by meeting here today?" -- Spencer Campbell
5): "Would an annual plan be realistic - and would it be a good or bad thing for us?!" -- John Cornelison
6): What should we do about the strawberry parade? -- John Cornelison (paraphrased)
7): I will give an update on Richard Curtis's senate campaign. -- Maryrose Asher (paraphrased)

| March 9th Agenda: First Draft - Monday, February 15, 2010
For those of you who didn't get the memo*... hi. My name is Spencer Campbell, and I'll be your facilitator for the March meeting. Because I believe in optimizing the efficiency of everything I can get a hold of, I'll be using my own format on a trial basis. Instead of an agenda consisting of explicitly-scheduled items, an agenda for my meetings consists of a simple numbered list of questions and statements (with corresponding speaker). There is no time attached to these items, and no guarantee that we will get around to them, but as a rule those appearing higher in the list will be addressed earlier in the meeting.
*Yes, there was an actual memo. It was on the mailing list! It's difficult to imagine anyone who reads the website yet neglects to read the mailing list, but I would be remiss to assume.
The first draft of the March agenda follows. It's worth noting that, as of 0001 hours on March 9th, this agenda will be finalized and fixed. No new items will be added, no old items removed, and no sneaky rearrangement of existing items will occur. If you have an issue that you'd like addressed, you should send an Email to me as soon as possible so that I can tack it on. (Please phrase it in such a way that I can convey the concept to the group in one or two sentences.)
Generally, items will be ordered on a first-come first-serve basis. In this case the first three items are mostly a holdover from the previous meeting format, so I have Jeannie making the first announcement even though I haven't actually heard from her.
That's it for the time being. From now until the meeting itself (which is on a Tuesday, mind), I will be posting the latest version of the agenda as an announcement here every Monday. I'll be personally contacting as many known affiliates of the VMIGP as possible, finding out whether they're coming and if they have any issues to bring up, but if you want to save me some time or if you just want to chat:
