Hi all, I'm back from a couple of great weeks visiting family and skiing in the Rocky Mountains. I'm putting in a bit of time on the website today.
As long as I’m posting, I’ll make a bit of a pitch for ALL of you to register on the web site (if you didn't when it was upgraded several months ago) and to learn how to edit your own content.
I want to make editing the site easy for others to do, and I don’t desire to play middleman and try to interpret what verbiage to post. Creating an announcement or event on the site is trivial to do, and shouldn’t wait on my availability.
Let me know when and I can show any of you who are interested how to do these basics in about 15-30 minutes I suspect. Maybe I can hold a class before (or during) our next meeting. The first step is simply to go to www.VashonGreen.org, and then at the bottom of every page is the “register” link.

Fill out the ensuing form. Once done with registration and you logon for the first time, you’ll have to fill out some more info (only visible to Steve and I, as administrators). Thereafter logging on is just a routine username/password and gives you access to any ‘hidden’ content – not that we have any currently.
Once you register on our web site (and I notice), I’ll make you a editor, and then you can add announcements about whatever you think people should know - and events to our calendar, and even content to your own page if you desire.
In the future, I think it would be totally cool for any of us to post to “blogs” on our site and then mail out pointers and teasers to that to ensure people saw it.
The advantage of this is that everyone could easily search and point to and locate your various ramblings over time and they would not get “lost”, as current postings to the group now are. It could also reduce the bulk of the email going around too: most notices would still need to get posted to the email list, but the bulk of the message with all the details could be stored on the web site and the emails we send out could be shorter and leaner and easier to absorb.
The Blog functionality is a bit messed up currently, but if anyone contacts me that would motivate me to try sorting it all out.
Anyway, give me a call (after registering on the site!) if any of this interests you.
- John
P.S. Get it while it is hot: if you think there should be other changes to the web site, I’m happy to help you make those changes. Let me know what you think would be good!
